Looking up - Poem by Margaret Wilde

Looking Up

I have removed my spectacles.

Things are cosy-warmer.
Blurred edges take the edge off urgency.
Let us take our time.
We have things to peer at, things to find,
People to recognise –
How pleased they are by our so-flattering scrutiny!
Now then, where, exactly,
Are we?
Let us consult our map.
How considerately people help us on our way!
With what anecdotes are we regaled!
How admired our wide-eyed innocence!
Should all this gentleness
Really be exchanged
For as clinical an attribute
As clarity of vision?
