Eggs have an "insignificant" effect on cholesterol levels, according to scientists, who are now recommending people to eat as many eggs as they like.

You can now go to work on an egg every day, scientists say
from the Daily Telegraph

Extract:

"The research has come as a huge relief to the egg industry, which in recent decades has struggled to persuade people that eggs are a healthy, nutritious food.

Many authorities are still recommending that consumers should not eat more than about three eggs a week – out of date advice that failed to reflect the evidence, the scientists said.

Only last year the advertising watchdog banned an attempt to re-run the classic advert from 1957: Go to Work on an Egg.

The television advert, staring Tony Hancock and penned by the then junior copy writer Fay Weldon, was deemed no longer appropriate on the grounds that eating an egg for breakfast every day is not a "varied diet".

In the mid-1960s, Britons ate an average of about five eggs a week, but health advice helped drive that figure down to less than two in the mid-1990s.

However, in the study published on Tuesday, Juliet Gray and Bruce Griffin of Surrey University said that it was a "myth" that eating lots of eggs increased people's cholesterol level in most instances."

So where are the prominent apologies from the health advisers to the egg farmers?

This is the homepage about British eggs: http://www.britegg.co.uk/

- The health agencies' advice has damaged the egg industry for many years now - and has also damaged ordinary people's health by limiting their intake of eggs, a highly nutritious, versatile and easy to cook food. - Let's keep an eye open for those apologies - though I suspect that they will be as rare as hen's teeth! - I wonder if the egg farmers will be suing the negligent health agencies?

But this is typical. - 'Health experts' give advice prominently and emphatically, yet, as in this case, there wasn't a shred of evidence to support their warnings against more than 2 or 3 eggs a week.

It's the same as their advice that calorie reduction reduces obesity. - IT DOESN'T! - It's sodium reduction that reduces obesity. - And sodium reduction also reduces high cholesterol...(o: - So...
