Internet drug sales 'fuelling slimming fad'
Extracts:
"In its annual report, the board said drugs developed for life-saving anti-obesity treatments were being bought through the internet and used by women desperate to lose weight. "
"Anorectic drugs suppress the appetite or sensation of hunger and are mainly prescribed against obesity, narcolepsy and attention deficit disorder. They can be addictive, and indiscriminate use can cause panic states, aggressive behaviour, hallucinations and even death."
'Slimming' is unnecessary, ineffective and potentially harmful. It does not reduce obesity, because obesity is NOT caused by overeating. It is caused by fluid retention, and is best reduced by reducing salt intake. 'Slimming drugs are unnecessary, undesirable and often harmful, whether obtained from the internet or prescribed by a doctor.
I believe that most obesity in adults is caused by the side-effects (notably sodium retention) of many prescribed medications. It is therefore particularly cynical and opportunist for the drug companies to want people to take even more of their dangerous products, rather than tell them the truth - namely that the safest and most reliable way to lose weight is to eat less salt.
All overweight people suffer from fluid retention. - You can reduce this and lose some of the excess fluid/weight you have in your body by eating less salt and making sure you eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. - You do NOT need to restrict calories!
Lose weight by eating less salt! Go on! - Try it!
