Extract from the Telegraph:
"A lorry driver who wiped out a family of four when he fell asleep at the wheel was facing jail last night.
Ian King, 61, was driving at more than 40mph when he dozed off, ploughing his 30-ton articulated lorry into a queue of traffic on the A34 near Bicester, Oxfordshire.
Travelling in one of the cars crushed in the collision were Malcolm Dowling, 46, his wife Janice, 42, and their sons Richard, 16, and George, 11, who were on their way to their home in Lichfield, Staffs, after a holiday in France. All four were killed.
King, of Groby, Leicester, suffers from sleep apnoea, a breathing disorder that can cause drowsiness, and it was claimed that he would have known he was falling asleep but failed to do anything that would have kept him awake.
He claimed that he did not know he had the condition, said to affect an estimated 600,000 men and women in Britain, and so could not have done anything to avert the tragedy."
