Who benefits from diets and dieting?
the manufacturers of diet foods and diet drinks,
the authors of diet books,
the women's magazines that publish the latest diets,
the newspapers that do similarly,
the slimming clubs.
I'm sure you can think of others to add to these I have listed.
Who doesn't benefit from diets and dieting? - Sadly, the people who do not benefit from dieting are overweight and obese people who want to get rid of excess weight, because in practice, dieting is far more likely to cause an increase in weight than it is to reduce obesity. - If you are obese and you have already tried to lose excess weight by dieting you will have experienced for yourself that what I say is true. - DIETS DO NOT WORK.
The safe, fast way to lose excess weight is to reduce the amount of added salt/sodium you eat. This means cutting down on salt, not cutting down on calories or cutting down on food.
See how to lose weight by eating less salt. And see salt/sodium in foods.
Calorie counting nonsense and calorie restriction advice are propaganda/misinformation. You do not have to believe propaganda. Recognise it and confront it for what it is. - If your personal experience proves that low calorie diets do not work and that they make you hungry, tired, cold and depressed then accept that proof. It is called empirical proof. - 'Empirical' means derived from experiment and observation rather than theory.
The theory about low calorie diets is based on arithmetic; it is not based on what happens to real people who try to reduce their obesity by testing out the theory: those real people who become cold and tired and hungry and feel weak and faint, and catch colds, etc. easily because the dieting has lowered their immunity to infection.
If you follow my suggestions of giving up the calorie game and instead eat real food and don't go hungry, and avoid salt and salty food (that means mainly avoiding ready meals, takeaways and processed food as these are usually high in salt and pretty low in nutrition) - if you follow these suggestions you will not feel cold or tired or hungry or depressed. - Instead you feel very much better. You will have more energy. You will have excreted some of the excess fluid that has been held in your body - held there by the added salt in your food - fluid retention weighing you down. Your health will benefit in a multitude of ways. You will enjoy your life so much more and you will not be sacrificing your life and health and happiness to the dieting industry and the food industry and all the other guys who profit from the usual dieting propaganda. - And you will lose weight...(o:

Doomed to failure: Scotland's new initiative, entitled ‘Preventing Overweight and Obesity in Scotland – A Route Map Towards Healthy Weight’.
It dismays and astounds me that they are still, even now, peddling this lie, despite the destruction it is wreaking on the health of the people they are paid to serve.
Why don't they read the research? - Diets don't work! - Renaming diets 'healthy living' doesn't make them work. Restricting calories in and increasing exercise (calories out) is counter-productive. - It actually causes WEIGHT GAIN, because it weakens the blood vessel walls and so increases fluid retention. See the article in the British Medical Journal of November 2003 http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/327/7423/1085 for actual research on what happens when this advice is followed! - Over 800 obese adults were put on energy deficit diets, given diet sheets and plenty of instruction and help from trained staff, and apparently, visited fortnightly for a year, at the end of which they had GAINED weight! This mirrors the real experience of obese people, viz. - dieting makes you fatter.
To reduce obesity in Scotland they should be explaining that it is initiated by fluid retention, which tends to be followed by fat retention as well. The vector for both of these forms of excess weight is salt - more exactly, SODIUM. Reducing salt/sodium intake is the fastest, safest way to lose excess weight because it reduces both fluid retention and fat retention. - Fat retention is not caused by eating too much fat and is not cured by eating meals low in fat.

I listened to David Attenborough on BBC Radio 4, talking about Birds of Paradise
He explained how, in the 16th century, having never seen living Birds of Paradise, Western European naturalists came to hold irrational beliefs about these birds. These beliefs included that these birds had no wings or feet, and that the female bird laid her eggs on the back of the male up in the clouds. Some of these foolish and erroneous beliefs even entered the reference books and largely held sway until early in the 19th century when for the first time a European actually saw a Bird of Paradise alive and flying in the forest in New Guinea.
This may remind you of the erroneous belief of the Flat-Earthers of long ago. Or you may be reminded of the long-ago belief that the Sun revolves around the Earth, rather than that the Earth revolves around the Sun. - In the latter case, it was the all-powerful Catholic Church, in the form of the Inquisition, that harshly punished (for 'heresy') any scientist who thought logically and examined the empirical evidence and came to the correct conclusion that the Earth revolves around the Sun.
I myself am reminded of a present-day erroneous belief held by the too-powerful medical profession, namely that obesity is caused by eating too much and/or taking too little exercise, i.e. a combination of greed and indolence, often expressed as the Calories In/Calories Out explanation of obesity.
The wrong beliefs of the past about Birds of Paradise, the shape of the Earth and the relationship of the Earth to the Sun may have caused some intellectual/scholarly problems and, in shameful instances, some physical cruelty, but these adverse consequences pale into insignificance when we consider the huge and terrible harm done by the Calorie Myth as the explanation of how obesity is caused and how best it can be prevented or reduced.
Millions of innocent people of all ages all over the world are being caused great physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and economic suffering because the arrogant, ill-informed medical profession and its retinues continue to give the wrong information and harmful, incorrect advice on the subject of obesity.
Eating less and exercising more does NOT reduce obesity and millions of overweight people know from experience that it doesn't.
People who are overweight/fat/obese are sensitive to salt, which for them can result in sodium and water retention and therefore, obviously, weight gain. This in turn can result in calcium deficiency, which causes fat retention. Reducing salt intake reduces both the fluid retention and the fat retention. - Reducing calories does not address the fluid retention problem at all and that is the explanation for the fact that diets don't work.
Prescription drugs including many steroids, many antidepressants, anti-psychotics and epilepsy drugs as well as other pharmaceuticals, are a major cause of fluid retention/obesity/salt sensitivity and especially of morbid obesity. - Avoid taking prescription drugs unless they are absolutely necessary.
Try to forget you ever heard of calories! - The safe, effective way to lose excess weight is to cut down on salt/sodium and salty food. - Why not try it?

It's not the calories in junk food that make you gain weight; it's the SALT.
Why do you think people find that diets don't work? - It's because obesity is caused by fluid retention/salt sensitivity, not by eating too many calories.
We all know people who eat like trenchermen but never get fat. - They are the lucky people who are not sensitive to salt. For them, eating salt doesn't lead to fluid retention because their strong veins can withstand the input of salt/sodium when they eat more of it than their body needs. - Their kidneys do not have a problem dealing with the salt/sodium and they excrete any excess salt/sodium in their urine, along with the water that salt always attracts to itself.
When excess fluid (i.e. excess salt and water) is held in the veins, the extra blood volume obviously adds to a person's weight: water weighs heavily in fact. - So if you are overweight and reduce your salt intake you will shed some of the excess fluid held in your body and will therefore lose weight - easily, safely and fast.
And do not despise the weight lost and think well, it's only water. - Water is what you NEED to lose in order to lose weight safely. - You don't want to lose lean muscle/firm flesh. You don't want your skin and bones to become thinner and more fragile. - You don't want to lose your hair.
Believe me: you want to lose excess fluid. - There is a great bonus to losing excess fluid. - If you have fat retention as well as fluid retention, then reducing salt intake also reduces fat retention.
There are no calories in salt - but if you cut down on salt you will easily lose weight. If you cut down on calories you will not lose weight.
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, heart attack, vascular dementia, stroke, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver damage and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs, hunger or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better! Message for Stephen Nolan of BBC Radio 5: you will easily lose excess weight if you cut down on salt and salty food.
Obesity is NOT caused by overeating. It is caused by fluid retention, frequently because of taking prescribed medications, especially steroids such as prednisolone, prednisone and HRT, and anti-depressants such as amitriptyline. (When doctors prescribe drugs that cause sodium retention and water retention they should warn the patient not to eat salt, or food containing salt, while taking the medication. When they do not give this warning, the inevitable consequence is considerable weight gain.)
Poor Stephen Nolan! - He says he weighs 20 stone and is morbidly obese. I have heard him say on other occasions, however, that he likes salty food and eats a lot of it. - If he were to avoid salt and salty food he would easily and rapidly lose a lot of his excess weight because it is the sodium in the salt he eats that is holding excess water (fluid retention) in his body and making him obese. - If you see Stephen, tell 'im!

The British Heart Foundation (the BHF) is mainly giving the wrong information about the causes of overweight and how to reduce it.
"Why do we gain weight?
By taking in more energy (calories) than your body is burning, you will gain weight. The extra calories that you’ve consumed will be stored as fat – too much of which results in weight gain. If you’re not physically active, you’re even more likely to gain weight.
Fatty foods, sweet foods and sugary drinks are all likely to cause excess weight gain""I have quoted selectively, but not inaccurately. This is their main message about what causes weight gain, but the fact is that excess weight gain is caused by fluid retention, NOT by calorie excess or energy imbalance. The fluid retention is maintained by salt/sodium intake, and the excess fluid is mainly held in the blood vessels, so that if you are very overweight you may already be aware of distended and painful veins. Calorie reduction does not reduce fluid retention, nor does it reduce fat retention.
On the same page it also says:
"How can I lose weight?
The best way to lose weight is by reducing your calorie (energy) intake by cutting down on the fat and sugar in your diet and following a healthy balanced diet. Being physically active also plays an important part in losing weight as you burn up calories.
Try not to lose weight too quickly. Losing weight slowly and steady about one to two pounds (between half a kilo and one kilo) a week is healthier, and you are more likely to keep the weight off for good. Gradual weight loss is the safest and most effective long term way to lose weight."
None of this is true. There is no evidence to support what they claim about burning up calories to lose excess weight. - The best and safest way to lose excess weight is to cut down on salt/sodium and salty food. - If you do this gradually you will lose weight gradually; if you do it more rapidly you will lose weight very fast indeed, especially if you make sure that you eat plenty of fruit and (unsalted) vegetables as well, because fruit and veg are rich in potassium, and potassium displaces some of the sodium in your body, thus enabling you to excrete more of the excess fluid from your body. Reducing salt intake is safe and we are advised to eat less salt. Most of us eat too much salt. - It is DIETING - by which I mean eating fewer calories than your body requires - that is harmful. Calorie counting and advice about increasing exercise and reducing fat and carbohydrate intake to reduce obesity are ineffective, counter-productive and often damaging. - See the article in the British Medical Journal of November 2003 http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/full/327/7423/1085 for actual research on what happens when this advice is followed!
If you have fat retention as well as fluid retention, you will find that the fat retention is also reduced by cutting down on salt. - Fat retention is not caused by eating too much fat and is not cured by eating meals low in fat. - Read about fat retention here: FAT RETENTION

Restaurants, sandwich chains and coffee shops will soon start to display calorie counts on their menus in a misguided attempt to fight UK's obesity.
article in the Telegraph
Extract:
"Within the next six months many well known chains, including Pizza Hut and Pret a Manger, will start to prominently display the calorie content of all of its food.
The idea is being pushed by the Food Standards Agency, the Government's food regulator, which wants all outlets from fish and chip shops to Michelin-starred restaurants to give details of what is in their meals.
If it is a success, the FSA is considering going even further by asking restaurants to publish so-called 'traffic light' labels on their menus, which would highlight in red if a dish was too salty, sugary or fatty."
Knowledge of calorie content will not help anyone to become less obese. Providing this information will be just another colossal waste of time and money. - To lose excess weight it is helpful to know the salt/sodium content, not the calories.
Obesity is not caused by eating fat or sugar or too many calories. Nor is it caused by inactivity/laziness. It is caused by weakened veins leading to fluid retention in the bloodstream, i.e. sodium retention and water/fluid retention, and thereby to excess weight/obesity.
The way to reduce/prevent obesity is to avoid salt and salty food, and to avoid prescription drugs as far as possible because these are a major cause of the the blood vessel damage that precedes the salt sensitivity/fluid retention.
Why not help with disseminating the truth? - If you have any friends who are overweight and know from experience that dieting does not work, tell them about my blog or send them a link to my website. - Better still, tell your MP about my website. - I'm afraid my own MP is as much use as a chocolate teapot...)o:

If it were not so tragic and doing such catastrophic harm, the ignorance that Dawn Primarolo displays about what causes obesity would be hilarious.
Article in the Telegraph
Fast food restaurants should have to advertise how many calories are in their meals, the public health minister, Dawn Primarolo, has said.
Extract:""I know good diet isn't just about calorie content, and I know there will be difficulties for independent restaurants, but we have to start somewhere. Why can't we have calorie content on menus in all chain restaurants?"
She also called for soft drinks manufacturers to produce their products in smaller sizes.
She praised drinks companies for the range of low sugar drinks on the market.
But she called for greater numbers of soft drinks to come in "snack" sizes.""
"The minister was speaking at a conference on food and health organised by the Department of Health and the Food Standards Agency."
They're all as bad as each, it appears...)o: - The calorie content is the least important bit of information that is provided for food. It would not be going too far really to assert that the calorie content is completely irrelevant! - It's totally irrelevant for obesity reduction anyway, and, in my opinion, should not be included in the nutritional information on food wrappers, etc. The most important information needed is the salt content.
Until the truth is told - and nothing BUT the truth - about how to prevent/reduce obesity, then the increase in the incidence of type 2 diabetes and all the other illnesses attendant on obesity, aka fluid retention, will continue inexorably to rise. - It is FLUID RETENTION that needs to be addressed - the real cause of obesity - not over-eating, the completely imaginary cause that doctors and the other ill-informed diet bullies have invented.
Obesity is not caused by eating to excess or by insufficient exercise. There has never been a scrap of reproducible scientific research or evidence to support the theory that excess calorie intake causes obesity, nor that calorie deficit reduces obesity. The theory and the advice it spawns should be abandoned forthwith. They cause great harm and suffering.
When people whose blood vessels are weaker than the norm eat salt, the result is weight gain and obesity (because of excess sodium and water held in the blood vessels and elsewhere). This condition is also known as sodium retention, water retention, fluid retention, salt sensitivity or oedema. If these people reduce their salt intake they lose some of the excess sodium and water, and so lose weight, and if they eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables they lose weight faster, because the potassium in the fruit and vegetables displaces some of the excess sodium from the body.
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, heart attack, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

The Chinese government has been taken in by the calorie myths about obesity and have announced that schoolchildren will have to run at least 1km a day
Article in the Telegraph
Extract:
"The programme kicks off on October 26 and students are expected to have to complete their runs in their break times. The sports departments of provincial governments will enforce the scheme, which will continue until the end of April.
Chen Zhiyong, an official at the General Administration of Sport, said schools will arrange where the students can run, but races along busy roads will not be allowed.
The government is concerned by a rapid increase in child obesity after a report last year from the Health ministry showed that urban six-year-old boys are 2.5 inches taller and 6.6 pounds heavier on average than 30 years ago.
China's increasing wealth has led to the wider consumption of meat and a more sedentary lifestyle.
"The speed of the increase greatly exceeds the growth trends found in Western developed countries," said Yang Qing, director of the child health department of the Health ministry."
Exercise has many health benefits for many people, but it has no effect on reducing child obesity, as you can read in this article from the Guardian: Glasgow University Study finds that increasing exercise does not reduce child obesity.
This is because obesity is not caused by eating too much or by exercising too little. - It is caused by fluid retention. Fluid retention occurs when people who are sensitive to salt eat salt or salty food. When overweight people, including overweight children - and overweight pet dogs, cats and rabbits as well - cut down on their intake of salt and salty food they easily and swiftly lose some of the excess weight as they shed excess fluid from the body by way of extra urine from the bladder.
Lose weight, reduce fluid retention, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

Wider implications of the flawed theory that excess calorie intake causes obesity

Researchers at the National Institute for Agricultural Botany in Cambridge have produced a GM wheat that releases fewer calories into the body.
Article in the Telegraph
Extracts:
"Researchers at the National Institute for Agricultural Botany in Cambridge have produced a genetically modified form of wheat that releases fewer calories into the body compared to other varieties currently available.
Food made from the new crop is also digested slower, making people feel fuller and less likely to eat more food. The scientists hope that these qualities could help make staple foods such as bread, pasta and other flour products healthier."
"Scientists at Birmingham University have also discovered a new method to replace fat in food products by using a protein found in mushrooms. The protein creates an air filled capsule that mimics the texture of fat.
The researchers claim that the protein could be used to replace fat in foods such as salad dressings, mayonnaise, sauces and even ice cream where most of the fat is used to provide a rich texture rather than taste.
Dr Phil Cox, one of the researcher on the team, said: "It is hoped that, by making indulgent foods more healthy, the consumer will be able to continue to enjoy those foods that are currently seen as bad for you, without worrying about the fat content.""
Wouldn't it be great if the researchers gave up this misguided research and did something useful instead?! - They could at least check that their research is founded on reliable evidence. - There is no evidence whatsoever that reducing calorie intake reduces obesity. Nor is there evidence that reducing fat intake reduces obesity. - And they've never even tested out these theories to check if they are right...)o:
The facts are that obesity is caused by salt sensitivity/sodium retention/fluid retention and sometimes, additionally fat retention, i.e. obesity is not caused by overeating or by taking too little exercise. - Obese people can easily lose excess weight, i.e. excess fluid and excess fat, by significantly reducing their intake of salt/sodium and by eating plenty of fruit and unsalted vegetables. - Reducing calories or fat intake has no effect on fluid retention so does not result in loss of excess weight. - Slim people do not have the problem of salt sensitivity; THAT IS WHY THEY ARE SLIM! - It isn't that they don't overeat. - Frequently slim people are the ones you see eating like there's no tomorrow and taking no exercise, but nobody tells them they are greedy or lazy. - It's only the fat people that get gratuitously insulted and accused of greed, yet most fat people are counting calories/dieting MOST OF THE TIME and so they are hungry and UNDER-EATING most of the time.
The fattest people - the morbidly obese - are usually the victims of prescribed drugs that cause sodium and water retention. Doctors prescribe these drugs far too readily/carelessly/recklessly, often in high dose, and without the important warning that while taking them the patient should avoid eating salt of salty food.

Marmite, cheddar cheese, raisins, Corn Flakes and honey are to remain banned from being advertised during children's television programmes...
Article in the Telegraph
I'm all in favour of banning Marmite ads: Marmite is laden with salt and therefore very bad for children. But raisins and other dried fruits are very low in sodium/salt and are high in potassium and therefore tend to reduce the risk of child obesity, not increase it. - Child obesity, like all obesity, is caused by fluid retention, not by fat/sugar/calories. - See this page about children and obesity - http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/children.html
And the ads for Kellogg's Special K Sustain are allowed! - Yet this cereal is very high in sodium - 0.45g sodium per 100g product. - See http://www.kelloggs.co.uk/products/specialk/cereal/special_k_sustain.aspx
Extract from the article:
"However, the FSA said monitoring calories per 100 grams was the most effective way of cutting down on childhood obesity."
This is categorically untrue! - The most effective way to cut down on child obesity (and adult obesity) is to see that they avoid eating salt and salty food. - I don't know how the FSA (Food Standards Agency) gets away with giving the wrong information about the cause of child obesity. - Monitoring calories has absolutely no role to play in reducing child obesity.

If you are thinking of taking Fat Metaboliser tablets in order to lose weight, I suggest you think again.
Fat Metaboliser is designed as an easy to use
lifestyle plan to help achieve weight loss when
combined with exercise and a low-fat diet
plan.
and
This product
can help weight control only as part of a calorie
controlled diet.
BUT
1. There is no evidence whatever that exercise and a low-fat intake result in weight loss for overweight people. And there is some evidence that low fat intake tends to cause depression. If you feel you need to get rid of excess fat, here is some helpful, factual advice: see FAT RETENTION
2. There is no evidence whatever that a calorie controlled diet results in weight loss for overweight people. - There is evidence, however, that when overweight people reduce calories they frequently GAIN weight... (This is because inadequate calorie intake increases fluid retention - the cause of obesity - in overweight people.) - And the small proportion who lose weight are greatly harmed by the dieting and die sooner than the overweight people who do NOT diet...
- Over 800 obese adults were put on energy deficit diets, given diet sheets and plenty of instruction and help from trained staff, and apparently, visited fortnightly for a year, at the end of which they had GAINED weight! This mirrors the real experience of obese people, viz. - dieting makes you fat.
It is commonly accepted now, except by the 'experts', that less than 5% of dieters actually lose weight, and most gain weight as a result of dieting. - Even the ones who manage to lose weight do not usually improve their health. - See http://www.guardian.co.uk/medicine/story/0,11381,1515455,00.html for a report in The Guardian of Monday, June 27th 2005. It is about a huge research study of nearly 3000 people over a period of 18 years. The study found that overweight people who diet to reach a healthier weight are more likely to die young than those who remain fat. It also found that dieting causes physiological damage that in the long term can outweigh the benefits of the weight loss.
Salty food causes fluid retention/weight gain/obesity in people who are sensitive to salt, so for overweight people to lose weight they need to avoid eating salt and salty food.
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

The Duchess of York in Hull TV programmes. Also the Slimfast advert during the commercial break.
I was struck by one of the adverts during one of the commercial breaks - that for Slimfast. - There was the usual note on the screen about the product only helping with slimming if it is taken as part of a calories controlled diet...)o: - This is RUBBISH! - It is UNTRUE! - Calorie control/restriction/reduction/counting does not IN ANY WAY assist with losing excess weight.
The ONLY way to reduce excess weight is to reduce fluid retention, which is the cause of excess weight. - This means in practice reducing salt/sodium intake and/or increasing intake of potassium-rich foods such as fruit and fresh vegetables.
I wrote to the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) years ago about this calorie-controlled diet advice, which is so widespread. The ASA is supposed to ensure that adverts are "legal, decent, honest and truthful." - Well these calorie claims are not true; they are misleading and damaging. To lose excess weight, calorie reduction is unnecessary, counter-productive and harmful, and furthermore, there has never been a shred of evidence to support the claims made about calorie reduction, nor have the claims ever even been put to the test... - But the ASA has never done anything about these fraudulent claims... - So, in my opinion, the ASA is pretty useless...)o:

Cut children's salt intake to fight obesity. This will reduce the fluid retention that has caused them to become obese.
The so-called research in this Telegraph article claims that:
"Children who eat a lot of salt also consume more sugary drinks, increasing their risk of obesity, scientists have warned.
British researchers claim that cutting a child's salt intake by half can lead to a drop in the number of cans of fizzy drink they consume.
Children who halved their consumption of salt to 3g per day also cut out two cans of fizzy drinks a week, reducing their total calories by 250 a week."
This is utter tripe! - It is certainly true that reducing salt intake reduces weight - that, after all, is what this blog of mine is all about...(o: - But it reduces weight because it reduces fluid retention, NOT because it reduces calorie intake. - It has been demonstrated times without number that dieting (i.e. eating fewer calories) causes weight gain, not weight loss. - It is the salt reduction that causes weight loss, not any calorie reduction.
"The research, published last night in Hypertension, the journal of the American Heart Association, found lowering salt consumption by 1g a day would reduce consumption of sugary drinks by 27g a day.
For the study a team from St George's University of London, in Tooting, South London, analysed the records of 2,000 children aged between four and 18 from the National Diet and Nutrition Survey conducted in 1997."

I watched Jamie Oliver's Channel 4 show: "Eat to Save Your Life" last night and found it, like the curate's egg, 'good in parts'...
But the nutritionist on the programme gave the usual misinformation that reducing calorie intake is the way to reduce or prevent obesity. - There is not a shred of evidence to support this claim. - It is categorically untrue. - As far as food intake is concerned, to reduce or prevent obesity it is chiefly necessary to minimise sodium/salt intake and to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. This is because obesity is caused by fluid retention, not by overeating. It is also necessary to avoid dieting; dieting is a major cause of weight gain and ill-health...)o:
Prescription drugs were not mentioned at all in the programme, and yet they are overwhelmingly the cause of the most severe cases of morbid obesity. - People need to be warned to avoid prescription drugs as far as they possibly can. They cause far more harm than good...)o:

Overweight/obese people can easily and swiftly lose weight by giving up dieting and instead concentrating on avoiding salt and salty food. This reduces the fluid retention.

Britain: one in three primary-school leavers is overweight, - The cause of obesity in children is misinformation by the 'experts'.
Extracts:
1) "One in three children leaving primary school in some parts of Britain are overweight, it has emerged.
New figures released by the Department of Health have also shown that one quarter of children are already obese when they start school before the age of five.
The statistics form part of a nationwide survey of children’s weight which is currently being carried out by the Government.
Figures released by 10 primary care trusts under the Freedom of Information Act have prompted experts to fear that the obesity epidemic has been grossly underestimated.
The findings suggest the Government may not meet its target of stopping the increase in obesity among under-11s by 2010. "
2) "The research comes as a poll for high-street supermarket Sainsbury’s found that weight-conscious teenage girls are not eating enough calories for their age group.
It revealed just over a third of 13 to 18-year-old girls are on diets or have dieted recently and 45 per cent eat less than 1,200 calories per day, which is below the recommended intake.
Only 14 per cent of the teenaged boys surveyed admitted to dieting but a quarter consumed fewer than 800 calories per day - as little as one third of their recommended daily amount."
The second extract provides the explanation for this increasing problem of obesity - namely the continued incorrect advice that 'experts' give about how to reduce obesity. The advice is based on the assumption - unsupported by scientific evidence - that obesity is caused by overeating and can be remedied by eating less, i.e. dieting. - This is catastrophically harmful advice because, as you have just read, it leads to obese people eating insufficient food - particularly damaging to children.
In fact, obesity is caused not by overeating, but by fluid retention, and fluid retention is exacerbated by 'slimming'/dieting...
To reduce fluid retention, and thereby reduce excess weight/obesity, it is necessary to cut down on salt/sodium intake. Eating plenty of fruit and unsalted vegetables makes weight loss faster, because these are foods rich in potassium, and potassium helps to remove sodium and the water that accompanies it from the body - by way of the urine.
Lose weight and improve your health in many ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! Go on! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!
