OFT alleges that GSK breached competition law to delay rivals' generic copies of Seroxat

The OFT alleges that GSK breached competition law to delay rivals' generic copies of Seroxat, one of its most profitable drugs. See BBC News report. "GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has been accused of market "abuse" by the consumer watchdog, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). The OFT alleges that the pharmaceutical giant paid rivals to delay the release their own versions of GSK's Seroxat treatment. Alpharma, Generics UK and Norton Healthcare all received money not to enter the market with their copies of Seroxat, it said."

We must not be surprised at GlaxoSmithKline being accused of nefarious activities. You can read here of several more breaches of the Law by GSK with regard to the antidepressant, Seroxat, and other pharmaceutical junk that GSK manufactures. Some further examples of its criminality can be found on this page.

GSK whistleblowers handsomely rewarded for their evidence which helped in the US prosecution of Glaxo for drug mispromotion and fraud

The Telegraph reports that four former GlaxoSmithKline employees will share up to £159 million for their part in the successful prosecution of the drug company. Unfortunately Glaxo's crimes and misdemeanours are regarded with amazing leniency in Britain, as evidenced by the award of a knighthood earlier this year to Andrew Witty, CEO of GlaxoSmithKline. Drug company profits trump patient safety and corporate ethics.

Do you really think that GSK, the drug company, is interested in helping people to be healthy?

Do you really think that drug companies are interested in helping you to be healthy? - Surely not? - Are you not aware that they repeatedly appear in both the civil and the criminal courts as defendants in cases of fraud, bribery, corruption and the like? - That their only real interest is in profits and their only motivation is greed? - Check it out:

See last Monday's article on the BBC News Website, in which we read that "GlaxoSmithKline is to pay $3bn (£1.9bn) in the largest healthcare fraud settlement in US history. The drug giant is to plead guilty to promoting two drugs for unapproved uses and failing to report safety data about a diabetes drug to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The settlement will cover criminal fines as well as civil settlements with the federal and state governments.
The case concerns 10 drugs, including Paxil, Wellbutrin, Avandia and Advair."

Did you know that the many well-honed skills of GSK include bribing doctors to prescribe antidepressant drugs off-label for children, knowing that these drugs can and do result in grave harm to children, including death? And did you know that Andrew Witty, CEO of GlaxoSmithKline, was knighted in the 2012 New Year Honours List? - Beggars belief, doesn't it? - It's not as if the fraudulent practices of this firm have only come to light recently. They have been reported and in the public domain for years. Why was the head of this huge criminal business recommended for a knighthood?

I've mentioned Andrew Witty previously in one of my blogposts. - See HERE. Would you feel safe taking drugs made and marketed by this company? -  Well I wouldn't.

The testing of dangerous drugs and vaccines on children

Dr Mercola has published an article today about the testing of dangerous drugs and vaccines on children. He has a passionate concern to protect children from the serious harm that these drug trials can cause. "The first principle of the Nuremberg Code—that doctors must obtain voluntary informed consent from the person about to be experimented on—appears to be frequently ignored, especially when it comes to clinical trials of experimental vaccines. In recent news, the Argentinean Federation of Health Professionals accused GlaxoSmithKline of misleading participants and pressuring impoverished, disadvantaged families into enrolling their children in clinical trials of the experimental Synflorix pediatric pneumonia vaccine. Fourteen of the children participating in the experimental vaccine trial died." I urge you to read his article.

More medical ghostwriting

A University of Pennsylvania psychiatry professor is alleging that several colleagues - including his department chair - allowed their names to be added to a medical journal manuscript but gave control of the contents to GlaxoSmithKline. Read article at pharmalot.com

Dangerous practices and details of gross negligence at the Cidra pharmaceutical plant, run by one of GlaxoSmithKline's subsidiaries.

Dangerous practices and details of gross negligence at the Cidra pharmaceutical plant, run by one of GlaxoSmithKline's subsidiaries. - Read Dr Mercola's article about this. Do you agree with me that the top people of drug companies that are guilty of such negligence should personally have to be answerable to criminal charges in court and receive severe punishments, like prison sentences, in order to discourage repetition of the offences? - What if you or your loved ones are the next patients to suffer from Big Pharma's dangerous products?
If you agree with me on this, then draw these scandalous details to the notice of your friends, family and colleagues.

Pharmaceutical Industry's Criminal Fraud Settlements

Between 1991-2010, there were 165 criminal and/or civil settlements by major pharmaceutical companies comprising of $19.8 billion in penalties. Four of the world's largest drug companies--GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, and Schering-Plough--accounted for 53% ($10.5 billion) of penalties during these two decades.

Truthman speaks out against GlaxoSmithKline

Truthman speaks out here against nefarious practices by GlaxoSmithKline, the drug company. He writes about the illegal marketing of depression drug Wellbutrin as a weight-loss aid, and the tragedies caused by SSRI anti-depressants, including Prozac, Seroxat, Citalopram and Zyprexa, because of their grave side-effects. If you ever think of taking any of this pharmaceutical junk yourself, I urge you to ponder Truthman's words and the words of Dr David Healy, an expert on SSRI drugs, and think again. Improving your nutrition is far more likely to lessen depression than any pharmaceutical mind-altering drugs. Can you really trust GSK or other drug companies with the safety of your brain/mind when you read of their iniquitous behaviour? - Your brain is not infinitely elastic. Guard it from assault by psychotropic drugs.

Watch out, South Africa! - GSK has you in its sights!

In this Guardian report, we read: "The rainbow nation is "eating itself slowly to death", according to the drug and healthcare company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), which says 61% of South Africans are overweight, obese or morbidly obese."

Let's see now: that'll be GlaxoSmithKline, Britain's biggest pharmaceutical company, whose top drug product is the asthma steroid medication Advair, which is well-known for causing weight gain...

Another of GSK's drugs is epilepsy treatment Lamictal, which causes weight gain.

And another is antidepressant Paxil, which also causes weight gain.

I think we can see a common side-effect of these GSK drugs here, can't we? - Weight gain.

You'll probably be aware of the Avandia scandal, revivified in recent weeks. Among the host of harmful side-effects of this very dangerous diabetes drug is weight gain/fluid retention.

So GSK's products are themselves directly causing weight gain - i.e. that's pharmaceuticals that are causing weight gain, yet the pharmaceutical company itself blames overeating for the obesity of South Africa's citizens and doesn't mention drug-induced weight gain at all.

If you have gained excess weight from taking prescription drugs, you can lose some of that excess weight by avoiding salt and salty food. This is the safe, sure, fast way to lose excess weight. - Go on! - Try it! - You will feel so much better! See my website here and how to lose excess weight safely and vulnerable groups.

Pharmaceutical drugs are a major cause of obesity - especially of morbid obesity - and all the Pandora's box of ill-health and distress that accompanies obesity. I fear from this report that Glaxo may be setting off on a campaign of further damage to South Africa's unfortunate citizens by conning them into taking weight loss drugs - i.e. further harmful pharmaceutical junk.

US Department of Justice is probing corruption in the pharmaceutical industry

The US Department of Justice is scrutinising payments by leading pharmaceuticals companies for hospitality, consultants, licensing agreements and charitable donations in markets around the world as part of a wide-ranging corruption probe. GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Eli Lilly, among others, have disclosed being contacted by the DoJ and Securities and Exchange Commission in connection with the investigation. Merck, the US drugs group, announced that it had also been contacted and was co-operating with investigators.

Criticism mounts on GSK re Avandia, its diabetes drug widely regarded as unsafe

See the Telegraph article. Incredibly Glaxo's response has been, ""Since 2007 we have seen results from six controlled clinical trials looking at the cardiovascular safety of Avandia. Together they show that this medicine does not increase the overall risk of heart attack, stroke or death."" - And the band played believe it if you like...

Glaxo playing the wide-eyed innocent sits oddly with the ghastly history of the usage of this drug, and the tactics, including intimidation, GSK have employed to try to suppress the facts about its adverse effects. You can read some of that history here: http://wildeaboutobesity.blogspot.com/search/label/Avandia.

Further attention drawn to health risks of GSK's diabetes drug, Avandia

PACE to hold hearings on 'falsified' swine flu pandemic

PACE is to hold hearings on pharmaceutical companies' possible influence on the global swine flu campaign and on the World Health Organization, a Russian daily reported. "The 47-nation Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is conducting an inquiry into an alleged conspiracy between the WHO, the pharmaceutical industry and scientists which could "expose millions of healthy people to the risk of side-effects of insufficiently tested vaccines," caused damage to public budgets and to health agencies' credibility, according to a PACE resolution. The motion was introduced by Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg, head of the health committee, former German lawmaker and a specialist in lung disease, who called the current pandemic "one of the greatest medical scandals of the century." WHO declared the pandemic in June 2009 on the advice of a group of experts many of whom are believed to have financial ties with pharmaceutical giants like GlaxoSmithKline, Roche, Novartis, and benefited from the production of drugs and H1N1 vaccines."

Comment: Russia's lower house of parliament, the State Duma, has apparently said that Russia should withdraw from the WHO if the corruption suspicions are proven.

Sleaze? the WHO advisor on vaccines and the secret Big Pharma cash?

A Finnish member of the World Health Organization board, an advisor on vaccines, has received 6 million Euros for his research center from the vaccine manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline. Although WHO promises transparency, this conflict of interest is not available for the public to see at WHO’s homepage. Professor Juhani Eskola is the director of the Finnish research vaccine program and a new member of the WHO group ‘Strategic Advisory Group of Experts’ (SAGE). SAGE recommends which vaccines -- and how many -- member countries should purchase for the pandemic.

Glaxo Payments in Paxil Suits

GlaxoSmithKline Plc has paid almost $1 billion to resolve lawsuits over Paxil since it introduced the antidepressant in 1993, including about $390 million for suicides or attempted suicides said to be linked to the drug, according to court records and people familiar with the cases. As part of the total, Glaxo, the U.K.’s largest drugmaker, so far has paid $200 million to settle Paxil addiction and birth-defect cases and $400 million to end antitrust, fraud and design claims, according to the people and court records.

Thousands of adverse reactions to GlaxoSmithKline's cervical-cancer-vaccine, Cervarix.

I believe the best protection against cervical cancer in teenage girls is to explain to them, and make sure they understand, that young girls are more susceptible to cervical cancer if they indulge in sexual activity before the cervix is sufficiently mature to deal with introduced infection from a partner. This is one of the many good reasons they should wait until they are older before they have sex.

The Telegraph
reports that there have been suspected adverse effects on more than two thousand schoolgirls after receiving the Cervarix jab. These include convulsions, fever and paralysis, nausea, muscle weakness, dizziness and blurred vision, rashes, pain in the arm, allergies and other ill-effects. These reactions were recorded by the drug safety watchdog Medicines and Health care products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Jackie Fletcher, founder of Jabs, a support group for families whose children have fallen ill after immunisation does not think there is sufficient evidence that Cervarix is safe.

Cancer charities continue to urge parents to have their daughters vaccinated, claiming that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks. But where these charities receive substantial donations from drug companies, especially from Glaxo, the manufacturer of Cervarix, there may be divided loyalties that influence what they say. The Telegraph article gives details of Stacey Jones, whose health was devastatingly damaged by a brain injury, caused by inflammation of the brain, when she had 18 epileptic seizures, the first one of which occurred 4 days after her third Cervarix injection.

I found this blog entry by Paul Flynn dark but insightful. It contains this gem of a sentence: Pharmageddon is when medicines produce more ill-health than health, and when medical progress does more harm than good. - I believe we reached this stage long ago and are heading for global as well as national catastrophe unless something effective is done soon to curb the power and malign influence of the drug companies and their medical acolytes and the politicians they have corrupted. - Do we have no honest, courageous, intelligent politicians to wage out-and-out war on the evil that is Big Pharma?

You can read on my website about some of the terrible harm done by pharmaceutical drugs that are recklessly over-prescribed by our drug-obsessed medical profession. (Prescription drugs are, of course, a major cause of obesity, morbid obesity and obesity-related illnesses, e.g. type 2 diabetes and heart disease.)

Concerns that OTC anti-obesity drug, orlistat, brand name Alli, may cause liver damage.

Reported here: BBC News item.

Extracts from the report:

"The FDA said the most commonly reported adverse reactions included the yellowing of skin or whites of the eyes, weakness and stomach pain.

Between 1999 and 2008, the agency received 32 reports of liver damage, 30 of which occurred outside the US. Of these 27 resulted in hospitalisation.

The agency said it was now conducting a review of the safety of the drug, but stressed no definite association with liver damage had been established at this stage."

"In the UK, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said it had received a total of 1,295 suspected adverse drug reaction reports associated with orlistat, including 137 involving suspected liver damage, since it was licensed in 1998."
