Even with very skilled surgeons, there can be devastating consequences. Jan Stanek has had to pay compensation to a face lift/liposculpture patient.
Article in the Telegraph
Extract:
"The internationally acclaimed cosmetic surgeon Jan Stanek has agreed to a six-figure compensation payout to a face lift patient who claims she suffered a devastating stroke whilst under his knife.
Diane Newbould, 53, who claims she was originally paralysed down one side, said she will never recover from the face lift and liposculpture operation carried out by Mr Stanek at a private hospital in central London in January 2002.
She sued Mr Stanek and the anaesthetist during the operation, claiming their negligence wrecked her life, leaving her a severely disabled shadow of her former self.
Yesterday, her counsel, Simeon Maskrey QC, told London's High Court that Mr Stanek and the anaesthetist had agreed to a substantial settlement of Mrs Newbould's case.
The settlement was agreed without any admission of liability by Mr Stanek, or the anaesthetist.
Mr Stanek is considered one of the leading surgeons in his field and is well known around the world after featuring in the Channel 5 series, "Plastic Fantastic," and most recently in the popular Channel 4 series, "10 years Younger"."
With regard to liposuction or liposculpture, the safest way to lose weight is to avoid eating salt and salty food. Surgery always carries risk and in my opinion should be avoided if at all possible.

Let the buyer beware when it's cosmetic surgery! - Boob jobs, liposuction, botox treatments - unethical practices by surgeons out for a fast buck...
Extract from The Observer:
"Earlier this year Rachel received damages of more than £20,000 in an out-of-court settlement from the clinic. That was to cover her pain, trauma and suffering, both physical and psychological, and the cost of corrective surgery. She plans to have that soon, but will be much more rigorous in checking the experience of her surgeon.

Fat, aging men are misguidedly turning to plastic surgery - liposuction and other procedures
Extract:
"The number of middle-aged men undergoing cosmetic surgery has more than doubled in just five years as they struggle to come to terms with "menopaunch", according to a report.
Men aged over 50 are spending thousands of pounds and taking weeks off work to have liposuction and other procedures such as eye bag removal (blepharoplasty) in attempts to remove stubborn fat, says a cosmetic surgery company.
Figures produced by The Harley Medical Group show that liposuction - including work done on the abdomen, flanks, chest and chin areas - accounts for 24 per cent of surgical procedures for 50-something men.
This was followed by blepharoplasty (21 per cent), face lifts (14), rhinoplasty or nose operations, (11), tummy tucks (8), neck lifts (7), brow lifts (5), chin implants (3) and otoplasty or ear surgery (2)."
What a pity these men - and other overweight people too - do not know that the causes of fat retention are mainly sodium and water retention and shortage of calcium and magnesium.
If you believe you have fat retention, then before taking the drastic step of surgery, just TRY significantly reducing your intake of salt and salty food, eat plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables (because their potassium content helps to remove excess sodium and excess water from the body) and make sure you are having sufficient calcium and magnesium and vitamin D. - See http://aboutsalt.blogspot.com/search/label/calcium and BBC webpage about calcium from The Truth About Food series of programmes

Do Botox parties need to be regulated?
Extract:
"The government was yesterday accused of "bottling out" of introducing regulations to clamp down on Botox parties and beauty clinics which offer aesthetic fillers to disguise wrinkles and plump up lips.
Although surgeons who perform face-lifts and liposuction are subject to some regulation, high street beauticians who offer Botox and fillers are not. And while Botox is a prescription drug which should only be given by a doctor or a nurse under supervision, there are suspicions that the rules are sometimes broken.
An expert working group reporting in January 2005 was also concerned by reports of Botox parties, where champagne was consumed and women who wanted to lose their laughter lines were offered two jabs for the price of one.
The government accepted the report's recommendation that clinics offering Botox and fillers should be regulated by the Healthcare Commission, which monitors the work of the NHS. But yesterday the health minister Lord Hunt said the industry would have to regulate itself. "Cosmetic surgery providers have shown real commitment to improving levels of quality and safety, and so I have decided to ask the industry to take the lead in further improving standards," he said."
What are normally considered as signs of aging or diseases of aging are not normally caused by the passage of the years; they are often the cumulative effect of dieting, poor nutrition and the side-effects of many drugs which are too readily prescribed, often for too long a time, in too high a dose and without adequate monitoring.
To preserve your youthful looks as long as possible eat good meals prepared without the addition of salt and eat plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables, and avoid taking drugs even if they are prescribed by a doctor, unless they are really necessary and are properly monitored. NEVER go on a diet! - ALL diets in which you eat fewer calories than your body requires are harmful. - Read page http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/story.html
