British Health Foundation warns that severe heart failure can feel like drowning

British Heart Foundation warns that severe heart failure can feel like drowning.

The British Heart Foundation is currently warning that severe heart failure can feel like drowning, as is reported in this BBC News article today. "There is no cure for heart failure, which can lead to extreme exhaustion and breathlessness." The BHF is aiming to raise funds for its Mending Broken Hearts Appeal: ""We aim to raise money to carry out basic research into regenerative medicine. Stem cells could help by offering therapeutic interventions."

The BHF is primarily a drug-oriented charity (see Health Campaigning Charities), with a heavy emphasis on the controversial drug family of statins. It always seems to me such a pity that they so rarely inform people that cutting down on salt and salty food can bring about dramatic improvements in heart health, e.g. helping with problems of breathlessness, reducing the size of an enlarged heart, reducing the risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease and heart attack, as well as a host of other degenerative conditions, including being overweight or obese. Salt reduction is particularly appropriate for overweight that involves fluid retention. If you want to help people who suffer from breathlessness, whether caused by heart problems or by asthma, or simply by being overweight, you could do them a big favour by telling them of the benefits that salt reduction can bring.

(I apologise for my typo in the title of this post. - It should say British Heart Foundation, not British Health Foundation.)

SALT: it doesn't just kill slugs, it can kill people too

Some people kill slugs by sprinkling salt onto them. This draws the water out of their very watery bodies and produces a sort of slug sludge. It seems a peculiarly cruel death. The internet can supply more kindly ways to divest oneself of unwelcome slugs.

When salt kills people it is usually a more long-drawn-out death. Instead of the salt drawing water out of its victim's body as with the slug, it draws more water into the body. Salt's victims tend to be babies/small children, who are vulnerable to salt because of the immaturity of their organs and their blood vessels, or pregnant women, made vulnerable to salt by hormone changes in their bodies, or other groups made sensitive to salt, most notably by taking commonly prescribed drugs, including antidepressants and steroids. All of these groups, because of excess fluid retention (extra salt and water, mainly held in the bloodstream), tend to become overweight/obese/morbidly obese, with the health consequences attendant on that, including high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, cancer (especially stomach cancer), arthritis, insomnia, depression, impaired kidney function, liver problems, type 2 diabetes and many more, as well as emotional distress because of the stigmatising attitudes provoked by obesity in modern-day societies.

You could lose weight and reduce your risk of suffering from the unpleasant, unhealthy consequences of salt sensitivity/vulnerability, of early disability and premature death, by simply eating less salt and salty food. - Go on! - Try it! - You will feel sooo much better! - and, dare I say it? - less sluggish!

Caffeine in Red Bull may have contributed to the death of Asda worker, Alfredo Duran.

Heart attack man 'drank four Red Bulls a day'

Extract from the Telegraph:

"Fears have been raised over the safety of high-caffeine energy drinks after an inquest heard they could have brought on a fatal heart attack.

Alfredo Duran, 40, who drank four cans of Red Bull every night, collapsed and died after working a supermarket night shift.

An inquest into his death heard that he had an enlarged heart and that caffeine may have triggered an attack.

Dr Ian Roberts, a pathologist, said the amount of Red Bull Mr Duran drank could have contributed to his death.

Levels found during the post mortem examination were not fatal, but were dangerous for a man with an underlying heart condition.

He said: "For an individual with this condition, the risk of problems with the heart is increased by stimulants such as caffeine and may be triggered by levels which would have no effect on people with a normal heart.

"My feeling is, given the evidence available, it was a cardiac arrest, possibly contributed by sub-toxic caffeine ingestion.""

Do you have an enlarged heart? - The good news is that it can be reduced in size by avoiding salt and salty food.

You have probably heard that cutting down on the amount of salt/sodium that you eat lowers your risk of a stroke or a heart attack, and lowers high blood pressure/hypertension. - But it has many more benefits for health as well, including reducing the size of an enlarged heart - and that means your breathing will be easier too...(o:

Carers failed by benefits system - Guardian

Extract:

"The punishing financial implications of looking after a disabled or chronically ill relative are revealed in new research that shows almost three-quarters of people are worse off as a result of caring.

Carers have been forced to cut back on food and heating and even sell their homes to offset the financial burden, according to the report by Carers UK. The charity also said the situation was likely to get worse, as it predicted an additional three million carers would be needed over the next 30 years. Campaigners said the findings proved the current benefit system does not work in the interests of carers and called for a full review into the incomes and services of those providing unpaid support."

You can reduce your risk of developing degenerative diseases like osteoporosis, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney failure, liver disease, arthritis, stroke, type 2 diabetes, dementia, obesity, enlarged heart and many other illnesses by cutting down on the amount of salt and salty food that you eat. - See http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/conditions.html

Acne? Eczema? - Tried everything? - Try this! (It costs nothing...(o:)

Salt has bad effects on some people, and that's not surprising when you think about it. - Our long-ago ancestors did not eat salt; at least, the only salt they ate for thousands of years was the salt naturally present in their food - and that was a very small amount of salt indeed. - All food and all water has tiny amounts of salt/sodium in it, and it is on this small intake of sodium that our species evolved. We do not need the addition of further salt. - Logically, then, a low salt intake would be likely to be best for us.

Likewise, the present low potassium intake of most people differs markedly from the potassium intake on which our species evolved.

To improve health in general it is logical to assume that cutting down on salt and salty food, and eating more potassium-rich food (fruit and fresh vegetables) would be advisable.

Some people are susceptible to problems with salt; other people seem to be little affected or not to be affected all the time. Steroids, HRT, some antidepressants and many other prescribed drugs increase sensitivity to salt and can precipitate acne and eczema. - I am suggesting that cutting down on salt and eating more fruit/veg will gradually lessen problems with acne and eczema. - Why not give it a try? - It worked for me. - It could work for you. - It costs nothing; no drugs are involved; and there are no side-effects - other than benefiting your health in many diverse ways - lower blood pressure, lower risk of stroke, heart disease, enlarged heart, type 2 diabetes, cancer, dementia, obesity, etc...(o: - Go on! - Try it!

The stress of everyday life is threatening a global epidemic of cardiovascular disease, a report by international health experts claims.

'Stress threatens epidemic of heart disease' - Telegraph

Extract:

"The stress of everyday life is threatening a global epidemic of cardiovascular disease, a report by international health experts has warned.

High blood pressure is a "silent condition" which is "grossly underestimated" by patients, their families, medics and politicians, according to the study unveiled at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The move towards "Westernised" lifestyles - associated with high-fat diets, long working hours and lack of exercise - is partly to blame. But by 2025 almost two thirds of the world's adults could have high blood pressure."

What nonsense! - 'Stress' is a weasel word. - People use it to mean exactly what they want it to mean. Here the word 'stress' is being used to cover up the real causes of heart disease and the people/power groups responsible for the high incidence of heart disease and so many other diseases.

Overwhelmingly there are two main causes of high blood pressure. One is salt sensitivity, and that is mainly caused by the side-effects of many - maybe even by most - of the drugs that doctors routinely prescribe far too much, frequently in far too high a dose. The other is the very grave effects of decades of misinformation and catastrophically wrong advice given by the medical profession and other supposed 'experts' about the causes and treatment of obesity.

These two factors lead to increased sodium and water retention in the blood stream, weakened blood vessel walls, thinning skin, strain on the heart because of the greater blood volume, leading in turn a host of ill-health problems of varying degrees of seriousness, including an enlarged heart and events like strokes from cerebral haemorrhage, and heart disease, heart attack, internal bleeding, obesity, type 2 diabetes, cancer, high cholesterol levels, cirrhosis of the liver and other liver damage, kidney damage, tiredness, poor sleep, red face, sleep apnoea, snoring, varicose veins, tendency to bruise easily, headaches and migraines, depression, thinning skin, pain, osteoporosis... the list is literally endless. - See some of them here: http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/conditions.html

Read about the politics of all this medical negligence and ignorance, the dereliction of duty of successive Chief Medical Officers at the inappropriately named Department of Health(!), political unconcern and complacency, the food industry that persisted in ladling extremely high quantities of salt into their processed foods and putting pressure on government departments to let them continue to do so, the harm done by the pharmaceutical companies, etc on this page - http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/story.html - and the wider issues on this page http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/socio.html
