Low-Fat Chocolate Bar is not an answer to Obesity
Well I've 3 observations to make:
1. Pigs will fly before these chocolate bars make the slightest difference to the incidence or severity of obesity.
2. There is no evidence at all to support the theory that fat intake is a cause of obesity.
3. 'Low-fat' does not equate with 'healthy'.
To lose excess weight you need to reduce your sodium intake, not your fat intake.

Being bullied or insulted because you're fat?
All that any overweight person needs to do to lose a lot of excess weight is to give up dieting and concentrate on reducing the fluid retention that is the cause of overweight/obesity. This entails cutting down on salt/sodium and eating plenty of fruit and unsalted vegetables. In practice, the best way to do this is to avoid ready meals, takeaways and processed food, and instead to cook from fresh. But you don't need to count calories and you don't need to eat low-fat, sugar-free diet junk. - Eat real food, and don't go hungry. - Just avoid salt/sodium and salty food.
Here is a helpful page of information for you: Sodium in foods

When you buy a kebab, you are buying a very salty product.
article in the Telegraph
Extracts:
"Doner kebabs sold in the UK contain "shocking" levels of fat, salt, and calories, according to a survey by the Local Authority Coordinators of Regulatory Services (Lacors)."
"An average kebab, without sauce, contained 148 per cent of an adult's daily saturated fat allowance and 98 per cent of their recommended daily salt intake. Geoffrey Theobald, of Lacors, said: "The level of saturated fat and salt in some is a serious cause for concern.""

A woman whose daughter died after taking a rare fat-burning drug she bought over the internet has warned of the dangers of unlicensed slimming pills.
Article in the Telegraph
Extract:
"Anjennis Waldrond spoke out after an inquest heard how her daughter Selena was poisoned by a fatal dose of Dinitrophenol – known as DNP – which she bought from a Chinese website in a desperate bid to lose weight.
Selena, 26, of Croydon, south London, was found in a freezing bath trying to cool her body, on August 19 last year, after taking a large dose of the drug.
Croydon Coroner's Court heard that she was rushed to hospital "sweating, agitated and running a fever" but died later that day.
Speaking after the hearing her mother warned: "Selena's life has been cruelly snatched away, all because she was desperate to lose weight.
"DNP is lethal. Please do not take it. If you want to lose weight, do it the sensible way.
"Not a day goes by where I do not think about my beloved daughter.""
It is tragic that obese people are driven to such measures because the medical profession and other 'experts' have for many years been giving dangerously harmful, incorrect information about the causes of obesity and how to treat it...)o: -
Obesity is not caused by overeating/too many calories/carbs or by eating too much fat or taking too little exercise. - It is caused by fluid retention.
It affects the groups of people who are sensitive/vulnerable to salt/sodium. - Reducing salt intake reduces fluid retention and so reduces excess weight safely and rapidly. - Dieting, i.e. eating fewer calories than your body requires, increases fluid retention because it weakens the blood vessel walls and so dieting usually causes weight gain, not weight loss. Dieting makes you tired, cold and hungry; it weakens your bones and makes your skin thinner; it causes hair loss.
Dieting and/or taking so-called slimming drugs is harmful and does NOT reduce obesity.
Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, angina, vascular dementia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

One in ten people in Britain has hardened arteries.
Extract from the Telegraph:
"One in ten adults is living with hardened arteries - the main cause of death in Britain - it was revealed yesterday.
The estimated cost of treating obesity and conditions linked to it - including cancer, diabetes, heart disease and strokes - has risen to well in excess of £1?billion a year. Based on body mass index and waist circumference - an indicator of the amount of abdominal fat - one in five men and one in four women are at a very high risk of health complications because of their weight, the NHS Information Centre found.
In England in 2006 there were 4,068 people who had been diagnosed as clinically obese - a fourfold rise in 10 years. However, there were a further 80,000 whose primary condition such as diabetes is caused by them being obese."
The best and safest way to reduce all these health problems is to avoid eating salt and salty food.

Manboobs a problem for you? - Try reducing your salt/sodium intake.
For people who are sensitive to salt, it is a good idea to avoid eating salt or food containing salt, because eating salt results in fluid retention, which naturally means weight gain and becoming fat. Reducing sodium intake releases some of the excess fluid from the body and it is excreted in the urine.
Lose weight and improve your health in many ways without drugs or expense by eating less salt! - Go on! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

Colonic irrigation works, Body Detox Clinic insists...
Extract:
"An advert which claimed that colonic irrigation was capable of relieving the symptoms of 19 conditions including ME, psoriasis, bad breath and colitis has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority.
The claims were made in adverts in the Metro newspaper and regional press in the north-east by a Newcastle-based company, the Body Detox Clinic. The claims were dismissed by the ASA because the company could not provide "robust clinical evidence to support them".
The ASA's ruling means the company cannot repeat the claims in paid-for advertising. However, the company's website, which is not regulated by the ASA, was repeating the claims yesterday."
In the complete article, it appears that there was only one complaint about this to the Advertising Standards Authority. - Contrast the way this matter has been dealt with, with the way my complaint to the ASA was dealt with. - I emailed the ASA about adverts and claims made that reducing calorie intake/controlling calorie intake reduces weight in overweight people. - As with the Body Detox Clinic, these claims have no "robust clinical evidence to support them". - On the contrary, there is very substantial evidence that these claims are completely false. - See the article in the British Medical Journal of November 2003 BMJ article for actual research on what happens when this advice is followed! - Over 800 obese adults were put on energy deficit diets, given diet sheets and plenty of instruction and help from trained staff, and apparently, visited fortnightly for a year, at the end of which they had GAINED weight! This mirrors the real experience of obese people, viz. - dieting makes you fat. - But the ASA is not taking any action about my complaint. - And yet it is far more serious; the misinformation being given/fraudulent claims being made by many advertisers, including government agencies - and I suppose some of the advertising is paid for - is harming millions of people, who try, unsuccessfully and damaging themselves in the process, to lose excess weight by calorie reduction, when all they need to do is to reduce salt intake and they will lose weight easily.

Obese people more likely to get Alzeimer's. - What a pity the public is not being told that to reduce weight they need only to eat less salt...
Extract:
"Britain's obesity explosion could trigger a second even more serious epidemic - of dementia. Experts warned yesterday that our fondness for fast food and resistance to exercise was not only causing waistlines to bulge - it is also damaging our brains.
An estimated 700,000 people have dementia in the UK and the number is forecast to rise to as many as 1.5 million over the next 50 years, according to the Alzheimer's Society.
But if the population goes on getting fatter, the total could rise to 2.5 million, said Clive Ballard, director of research at the society. "Obesity is a huge risk factor," he said. "People who are overweight at 60 are twice as likely to get dementia at 75. We have a public health epidemic of dementia given the ageing of the population, and it is essential to reduce the risks. If these factors are not controlled, it may not be 1.5 million but 2 or 2.5 million people affected.""
Exercise has nothing to do with preventing obesity - Forget about it! - Obesity is NOT caused by overeating or by inactivity. It is caused by fluid retention, frequently because of taking prescribed medications, especially steroids such as prednisolone, prednisone and HRT, and anti-depressants such as amitriptyline. (When doctors prescribe drugs that cause sodium retention and water retention they should warn the patient not to eat salt, or food containing salt, while taking the medication. When they do not give this warning, the inevitable consequence is considerable weight gain.)
Read here about the groups of people who are vulnerable to salt: vulnerable groups
Obesity can be easily reduced by seriously reducing your salt/sodium intake and eating plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables. - It is important not to restrict calories. - 'Slimming' or 'dieting' is unnecessary, ineffective and harmful.

This unfortunate morbidly obese woman, shown on youtube, will not lose weight by the exercise she is taking...)o:
And that exercise will also put a strain on her feet, which have to bear all that weight/pressure and friction. She will be made very tired by the exercise, and her hunger will increase because of the extra energy expended, and her poor feet will ache and become swollen and painful. - I hope she puts her feet up when she gets home!
If you know this poor woman, or anyone in a similar condition, please pass on the information that to lose excess weight it is vitally necessary to cut down on salt and salty food - seriously cut down. This reduces the fluid retention which is the cause of obesity. Eating plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables makes the weight loss faster. A really obese woman (or man, or child) who follows this advice will EASILY lose about a stone (14 pounds) in a month, and will continue to lose weight as long as the advice continues to be taken. Obese people are sensitive to salt, and so for them salt is harmful - much more harmful than it is for people who are not obese or overweight.
IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO DIET OR COUNT CALORIES OR GO HUNGRY!
And it is not necessary to do exercises to lose weight.
Lose weight by eating less salt! Go on! - Try it! - You will feel so much better!

At last! - A newspaper article about fat people that does not mock them or tell them to eat less and stop being lazy!
Extracts:
"Myths about fatness abound. US academic Paul Campos, author of The Obesity Myth, debunks many of them. For instance, the idea that Americans are getting fatter because of fast food is questionable. "The heaviest consumers of fast food in this country are single men in their 20s who weigh less than the average American," says Campos.
Another common misconception is that fat people are lazy. Recent evidence from the Early Bird study in Plymouth, which is tracking the weight and activity of 300 children, found no link between how much kids do and what they weigh."
"Obesity is harmful, but so are lots of things we do to ourselves. And while obese people do harm to themselves but not to others, they do not deserve the negative press and moral vilification that is so widespread. Fatism is just about the only irrational prejudice that is still deemed acceptable. Let's get rid of it. "
Nice to see an article that is sympathetic to fat people. - But if you are fat and would like to lose weight, here is how to do it:
Give up dieting/'slimming'! - Dieting does not work and is harmful.
Eat good meals, including plenty of fruit and freshly cooked vegetables.

Some Food Myths and how the Food Standards Agency is perpetuating them.
"The most effective way to lose weight – and keep it off – is by changing your lifestyle for good. You need to eat a healthy balanced diet, which means eating plenty of fruit and vegetables, basing your meals on starchy foods, cutting down on foods high in sugar or fat, and by being more physically active."
But actually, cutting down on sugar and fat is not necessary to lose weight. Nor is it necessary to be more physically active in order to lose weight. - All that is normally necessary to lose weight is to eat less salt/sodium, and, preferably, eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, because the potassium these contain helps to displace excess sodium from the body.
Nor was there any mention on page http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/healthissues/obesity/ (another of the Food Standards Agency pages) of the role of salt sensitivity and fluid retention in causing obesity and the need to eat less salt if you want to lose weight.
Although http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/healthissues/obesity/ does concede that "Sometimes certain medical conditions and drug treatments can cause weight gain," it has the usual (yawn!) misinformation about calories. - I quote: "When someone is obese, it means they have put on weight to the point that it could seriously endanger their health. This is caused by a combination of eating too many calories and not doing enough physical activity." The claim that "This is caused by a combination of eating too many calories and not doing enough physical activity" is simply not true!
I certainly agree that eating plenty of fruit and vegetables assists in weight loss, and "cutting down on foods high in sugar or fat, and by being more physically active" may well have some health benefits but does not reduce obesity. - The absolutely ESSENTIAL requirement for weight loss is to eat less salt/sodium and they do not even MENTION salt in the context of losing excess weight! - Nor does http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/healthydiet/foodmyths/ give the best advice about salt. - They advise cutting intake to no more than 6g a day. - But if you are very overweight or indeed obese, then you need to reduce your salt intake to the absolute minimum you can manage - much less than 6g a day. - This will enable you to lose as much weight as possible. - Don't worry about whether you will be getting enough sodium. - All food and all water contains a small amount of sodium and this is sufficient for the body's requirements. - So provided you are eating enough food and drinking enough fluid to stay alive, you will be getting enough sodium. - If you are not eat/drinking enough to stay alive then you've got more important problems than sodium to contend with!...(o:
I noticed today - April 8th, 2007 - (I can't remember whether it was there last time I looked at the page) that they have invented a bit of strange misinformation...(o: - http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/healthydiet/foodmyths/ says today:
"Drinking water that is ice cold doesn't use up any more calories than drinking water at room temperature."
Well of course drinking ice cold water does use up more calories than drinking water at room temperature. - I wonder why they are claiming that it doesn't? - The point is though, that it is completely irrelevant as far as reducing obesity is concerned, because obesity is not caused by calorie excess and is not reduced by calorie deficit.
I see that http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/healthissues/obesity/ also states:
You might be interested in the National Audit Office's Tackling Obesity in England. For a copy of this or other Government publications, contact the Stationery Office.
Don't bother! - I've got a copy and it gives the usual garbage/misinformation about obesity being caused by overeating/too many calories and says that calorie reduction and more physical activity is the way to combat obesity. - It isn't ! - It doesn't work! - It is unnecessary, counter-productive, harmful and often downright dangerous!
Incidentally, I wonder whether the freelance dietitians who have a link on the http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/healthissues/obesity/ page pay the Food Standards Agency for that link or for the business that accrues to them from it? - Maybe there is no cash involved. Maybe they just have reciprocal links. - My website definitely has no sponsored links. There is no gain to me, financial or otherwise, from your visiting my website or from taking any of the advice it contains. I alone pay all the costs of my website. - So you know that the advice I give is impartial and not tainted by considerations of possible profit.

Consider the Duck! - Compare it with the obese human swimmer!
Now, everyone who has ever cooked a duck, along with everyone who has never cooked a duck, knows that much of the weight of a duck is fat. - FAT. (In fact, fat comprises almost half of the weight of a duck.) - But when it is swimming, which is how we mostly see it when it is alive, it's a nice compact creature; its fat doesn't wobble about, does it? - Not at all. - And when it is out of its favoured element and moving on dry land, admittedly it waddles because its legs are so short and its webbed feet so big and ungainly on land, but its fat doesn't wobble. And its fat stays nice and compact when it flies as well. And clearly the fat does not make the duck uncomfortable or ill. - To BE a duck entails carrying a lot of fat.
Now consider those poor extremely obese people who have the misfortune to be selected to appear on TV as salutory lessons for the viewer and also to 'entertain' the viewer. Their body parts wobble as they walk or run. Their thighs and knees chafe painfully. Their breathing is laboured. They have large appetites - i.e. they are always hungry because they need extra calories to service the extra weight they have to carry around with them.
Now bring to mind the poor souls among them who have been filmed while swimming, for us to view on TV programmes. The unspoken invitation as we view this, is to be appalled and disgusted at the sight. - What do we see? - It is not the compact, comfortable swimming of the fat duck.
The obese person's swimming body, filmed from under the water, shows rolls of 'fat' moving about in a clearly abnormal way which certainly disturbs, and frequently disgusts, the viewer. - But is this what fat, in fact, does do? - No, it isn't, and it doesn't.
I refer you back to the duck. - No rolls of fat wobbling round when the duck swims...
What we have seen is rolls not of fat, but of excess water held in the distended blood vessels of the obese human swimmers, whose obesity is caused not by over-eating, but by abnormal fluid retention - hypervolaemia, i.e. excess blood volume. Only fluids move as freely as that, not fat.

Examples of Steroid Victims - Example Number 5 - Dr Mo Mowlam
Mo Mowlam was an extremely popular British MP and served in Tony Blair's government. She died in 2005, aged 55, and here is one of the obituaries to her - Mo Mowlam's political obituary
The article refers to her "steroids-induced weight gain" - but although the steroids she took because of a brain tumour certainly resulted in the massive weight gain that visually changed a beautiful woman into a fat caricature of her former self, this disfiguring weight gain could have been avoided/lessened by a very low salt/sodium diet, because it is not steroids per se which cause the weight gain, it is steroids PLUS SODIUM. - Steroids plus sodium/salt resulted in massive fluid retention. - If only she had been warned not to eat salt or food containing salt while taking the steroid medication she would not have become obese as she did, and would not have suffered the many problems that the obesity entailed. - I did write to her on the matter but I fear my letter and my later email may never have been read by her, government ministers being such busy people.
