An old school-friend rang me today and reminded me of a choral part-song we used to sing as girls

Katharine had been to a concert recently and the song had been on the programme. After our plucking at the strings of memory, I felt a desire to see the sheet music of the song again and have a little sing. - What a pleasure therefore to find it available on this website, www.vsmusicsupplies.com, and furthermore to find, on ringing up, that it is a real human being with a warm friendly voice who answers the phone, not a recorded message, not a daunting menu, not a call-centre slave. - Ruth will be dispatching my music on Monday...(o:

Big Pharma: the lies and corruption that promote sales of their Psychotropic Junk

Big Pharma in America: the lies and corruption that promote sales of their psychotropic junk and are damaging the health and happiness of ever-increasing numbers of Americans, most tragically children, in exchange for vast profits. Watch this video that was uploaded onto YouTube earlier this month.

Remember: the idea that depression and other mental health conditions are caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain is a myth invented by drug manufacturers in order to sell their vile products. Say NO! to their costly, chemical crap.

Low Carb, High Fat: LCHF. This is such an engaging little video about losing weight.

I apologise for its title, but this little video is really so good and great fun to watch.
It's from a Swedish paleo type movement, LCHF (Low Carb High Fat).

Note: Paleo is short for paleolithic, and refers to the (Old) Stone Age. Obviously Stone Age people had a very low intake of salt/sodium.

Court of Protection: listen to File on 4 on BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday 27 July at 2000 BST

File on 4 is always well worth listening to, and I think this programme about problems experienced by people under the protection of this court will be an eye-opener (ear-opener!) for most listeners. It will be repeated on Sunday 1 August, at 1700 BST. You can listen via BBC iPlayer or download the podcast.

Since I first read/heard about the workings of the Court of Protection I have felt it to be a sinister body. See what you think when you read this Telegraph article of 28 May 2010 ("A secretive court, which ruled that a cancer sufferer must have treatment against her wishes, can order that mentally ill patients are sterilised, undergo abortions or have life-support switched off") and view this YouTube feature. When what goes on in a court is shrouded in secrecy, my antennae of suspicion become alerted (as with the Family Courts, thought by many, including myself, to have too much power and precious little accountability).

One of the affected people in tonight's programme has said: "I thought it would be nice not to have to worry about money, that it would be like a bank account with added security. I didn't think for a minute it would be like this. The Court of Protection doesn't provide protection."

It seems to be a nice little earner for lawyers though, doesn't it?

High-Fructose Corn Syrup: personally I avoid it.

I try to avoid all those iffy chemicals found lurking in nutrition labels. A chemical that does not occur in food naturally and has been 'invented'/developed in the laboratory is not something I am inclined to want to ingest. HFCS comes high in that category. Here's the latest study that suggests that HFCS isn't good for health: cnn report on corn syrup.

And here's a YouTube lecture about the harm that High-Fructose Corn Syrup does to the body: The Bitter Truth. You'll need to settle down to watch for well over an hour, but it's entertainingly delivered and very interesting, and if it persuades you to avoid HFCS then it will be time well spent.

Very interesting discussion on atheism and religious belief

A 34 minute discussion between Ian McEwan and Richard Dawkins.

My goodness! How I admire McEwan's lucidity!

(I very much enjoyed his book, "Saturday".)

Social networking websites such as MySpace and Facebook are being asked to restrict online groups that promote anorexia

Pro-anorexia rife on social networking sites - Telegraph

Extract:

"Eating disorder charities have called on social networking websites such as MySpace and Facebook to restrict online groups that promote anorexia as a "lifestyle choice".

Pro-anorexia and pro-bulimia sites feature photographs of emaciated women and encourage victims to become dangerously thin.

The groups are appearing on MySpace and Facebook as well as YouTube, a popular video sharing site.
Many of the groups have been shut down by internet service providers.

The charities say that the groups claim to offer support but instead glorify mental illnesses.

A search of Facebook revealed several "pro-ana" groups, many with almost 1,000 members.

On MySpace, which has 115 million members, another group features photos of models alongside the warning "no people trying to recover, it ruins our motivation".

Thousands of people have viewed clips on YouTube that feature women showing their jutting bones, and sharing tips about how to avoid food."

A completely safe, reliable and very fast way to lose excess weight is to avoid eating salt and salty food, and to make sure of eating good healthy meals with plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit.

This unfortunate morbidly obese woman, shown on youtube, will not lose weight by the exercise she is taking...)o:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLFKmK6OZ50

And that exercise will also put a strain on her feet, which have to bear all that weight/pressure and friction. She will be made very tired by the exercise, and her hunger will increase because of the extra energy expended, and her poor feet will ache and become swollen and painful. - I hope she puts her feet up when she gets home!

If you know this poor woman, or anyone in a similar condition, please pass on the information that to lose excess weight it is vitally necessary to cut down on salt and salty food - seriously cut down. This reduces the fluid retention which is the cause of obesity. Eating plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables makes the weight loss faster. A really obese woman (or man, or child) who follows this advice will EASILY lose about a stone (14 pounds) in a month, and will continue to lose weight as long as the advice continues to be taken. Obese people are sensitive to salt, and so for them salt is harmful - much more harmful than it is for people who are not obese or overweight.

IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO DIET OR COUNT CALORIES OR GO HUNGRY!

And it is not necessary to do exercises to lose weight.
