Five of the 15 experts that advised the World Health Organisation about swine flu pandemic alerts had received support from the drugs industry, including for flu vaccine research, the WHO has revealed.

Clear thinking about the corruption that links WHO and the pharmaceutical industry
I warned against the vaccine on my aboutsalt blog last September: http://aboutsalt.blogspot.com/2009/09/think-before-you-vaccinate.html
The pharmaceutical companies cannot be trusted. Nor, clearly, can the World Health Organisation be trusted.

Sleaze? the WHO advisor on vaccines and the secret Big Pharma cash?
A Finnish member of the World Health Organization board, an advisor on vaccines, has received 6 million Euros for his research center from the vaccine manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline. Although WHO promises transparency, this conflict of interest is not available for the public to see at WHO’s homepage. Professor Juhani Eskola is the director of the Finnish research vaccine program and a new member of the WHO group ‘Strategic Advisory Group of Experts’ (SAGE). SAGE recommends which vaccines -- and how many -- member countries should purchase for the pandemic.

EU to probe the “influence” exerted by drugmakers on the World Health Organisation over “false pandemic”
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is to hold an emergency debate and inquiry this month into the “influence” exerted by drugmakers on the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) global H1N1 flu campaign...[...]... The WHO’s “false pandemic” flu campaign is “one of the greatest medicine scandals of the century,” according to Dr Wolfgang Wodarg, chairman the PACE Health Committee, who introduced the parliamentary motion.

Medical staff using dirty needles are infecting millions of Africans with HIV
The Telegraph reported that “One in five HIV sufferers in Africa was infected by medical staff using dirty needles and clinical equipment.” That is nearly five million new cases annually because of bad, crucially unhygienic practice. The research appears in a publication backed by the Royal Society of Medicine.
“Africans are subject to a much higher proportion of injections and blood tests than patients in the West, according to a 1999 study for the World Health Organisation.
That research found that a wide range of common symptoms such as colds, ear infections, fatigue and tonsillitis were treated with injections rather than oral medication.
The study concluded that at least 50 per cent of these were unsafe, with needles being used repeatedly on one patient after another, without sterilisation.“
I hope you are as horrified as I am. – It seems clear to me that Western medicine needs to get the hell out of Africa, where it is directly responsible for appalling suffering, disease and death on an unimaginable scale.
In my opinion, philanthropy as it is too often practised by Big Business – i.e. unloading a load of pharmaceutical drugs, sometimes drugs that contain live microbes – to be injected into Africa’s adults and children in less than hygienic circumstances, seems like the work of the devil incarnate!
The Constant Gardener, a book by John le Carré, has the harm done by Big Pharma to African citizens as its fictional theme, but although the detail in the book is fictitious, the reality of the harm done by pharmaceutical junk in Africa is actually worse. If you haven’t read the book or seen the film/DVD, I recommend you do so and have your eyes opened.

Swine Flu Conspiracy? There are close links between World Health Organization officials and drug companies over swine flu...
A British epidemiologist has said he is worried by close links between World Health Organization (WHO) officials and pharmaceutical companies over swine flu. Recent Danish media reports alleged that the WHO, which on June 11 declared swine flu a pandemic, has teamed up with pharmaceutical companies to create a scare and cash in on selling a remedy. In an interview with Russia's BFM.ru, Tom Jefferson, a scientist currently based in Rome, said that although he personally did not believe in plots, "I am a bit worried about what I have observed." He said WHO expert committees have "people with extensive ties to the industry or decision-makers who have explicitly kept on producing apocalyptic forecasts year in, year out."

Concerns about safety of swine flu vaccine
I have copied and pasted the following from Dr Rath's newsletter.
Health officials have warned doctors of possible similarities between the new swine flu vaccine and a jab linked to 25 deaths in America in the 1970s. The government’s Health Protection Agency (HPA), said in a letter to neurologists that they needed to look out for increases in cases of a brain disorder that might follow the launch of the immunisation programme. The letter has been sent because of concerns sparked by studying of the swine flu vaccination campaign in America.
Read article in the Sunday Times (UK)
Comment: Several hundred cases of a lethal paralysing neurological disease called Guillain-Barré syndrome were reported in the United States following a mass immunisation programme against a swine flu outbreak in 1976. Mindful of this, the World Health Organisation recently admitted that “adverse events directly caused by the vaccine may also occur” from the new swine flu vaccine and that these “cannot be predicted in advance”.

Airline-style checklist is to be introduced in NHS operating theatres after a worldwide study shows it cuts deaths and complications after surgery.
article in the Telegraph
Extract:
"The checklist, drawn up by experts at the World Health Organisation, involves stopping all work at three points in an operation, where the staff present confirm they have the right patient, equipment is working, they are about to do the correct surgery, and all needles and swabs are counted before and after to ensure none have been left in the wound.
Eight hospitals around the world recorded surgical complications and deaths before implementing the checklist and afterwards with a total of 7,688 patients involved.
The results, published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine, showed that major complications reduced from 11 per cent to seven per cent – a reduction of one third – and deaths dropped from 1.5 per cent to 0.8 per cent – a 40 per cent reduction.
St Mary's Hospital in London, where Health Minister Professor Lord Darzi still works as a surgeon, took part in the study between October 2007 and September 2008.
During the time the hospital was piloting the checklist surgeons removed the gall bladder of the wrong patient, which is exactly the kind of mistake the checklist is designed to stop. The error was made in an operating theatre that was not involved in the study.
A spokesman for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust which runs the hospital, said: "The international pilot was undertaken in a limited number of operating theatres, which did not include the one in which the incident took place. Ensuring effective trust-wide implementation of the checklist is a key part of our response to the incident."
Lord Darzi said: "The beauty of the surgical safety checklist is its simplicity and – as a practising surgeon – I would urge surgical teams across the country to use it. "Operating theatres are high-risk environments. By using the checklist for every operation we are improving team communication, saving lives and helping ensure the highest standard of care for our patients. The amazing results from the global pilot puts this beyond any doubt."
The National Patient Safety Agency alerted all NHS trusts to the checklist and will require all relevant organisations to implement a modified version of it by February 2010."
Reducing avoidable deaths and complications would certainly be welcome. - Bearing in mind my own recent experience, I'd recommend also ensuring that bandages are not put on too tightly on patients with thin, delicate skin and weak veins, and are changed for dressings as soon as possible, to avoid unnecessary bruising, swelling, pain and further skin-thinning.

Up to 75,000 people in Britain will die as influenza or a similar disease sweeps the world in an "inevitable" pandemic, according to a Lords Committee
Article in the Telegraph
Extract:
"Changes in lifestyle are leading to new infections and providing them with opportunities to spread rapidly, the report warns.
An outbreak in Britain will cause "massive" disruption, it concludes. More should be done to provide early warnings.
The Lords intergovernmental organisations committee says the "dysfunctional" World Health Organisation needs to be better organised to cope with the threat. The peers describe the Government's evidence to it as "sobering".
They were told by ministers: "While there has not been a pandemic since 1968, another one is inevitable.
"Estimates are that the next pandemic will kill between two million and 50 million people worldwide and between 50,000 and 75,000 in the UK. Socio-economic disruption will be massive." The committee says that with three quarters of newly emerging human infections originating from animals, more stringent ways of detecting diseases are needed.
Lord Soley, the chairman of the committee, said: "The last 100 years have seen great advances in public health and disease control through the world, but globalisation and changes in lifestyles are giving rise to new infections and providing opportunities for them to spread rapidly."
You can strengthen your immunity to infections by reducing your intake of salt and salty food.

Cheap air travel 'is spreading deadly infectious diseases'
Extract:
"People are at greater risk of contracting potentially lethal infectious diseases because of the boom in international air travel, the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned today.
New diseases are emerging at the "historically unprecedented rate of one per year", and failures in international co-operation are putting lives at risk, according to a new report.
Centuries-old threats such as influenza, malaria and tuberculosis are thriving due to mutations and rising resistance, while deadly new diseases threaten worldwide epidemics.
"It would be extremely naive and complacent to assume that there will not be another disease like AIDS, another Ebola, another SARS, sooner or later," the report warns.
The WHO is calling on countries to report potentially dangerous health emergencies more quickly, and be more willing to share scientific knowledge of new infections.
The report highlighted two recent failures of international intelligence sharing that could have put lives at risk.
Earlier this year, American officials tracked the movements of a US lawyer believed to have a highly dangerous form of tuberculosis as he travelled around Europe, but failed to inform the WHO or the countries he visited."

New meningitis vaccine may end meningitis epidemics in west Africa
Extract:
"The deadly meningitis epidemics that sweep across Africa killing many thousands of children could be ended by a new vaccine which has just been successfully trialled, scientists say today.
The vaccine has been developed by a Seattle-based non-profit organisation called the Programme for Appropriate Technology in Health (Path), together with the World Health Organisation and an Indian vaccine producer.
Collectively they call themselves the Meningitis Vaccine Project. Preliminary results of a trial amongst 600 toddlers aged 12 to 23 months in Mali have shown that it is substantially more effective than other vaccines against the meningitis A strain that periodically ravages west Africa. It produced levels of antibodies that were 20 times higher than anything before in the children."

The World Health Organisation, the drugs company and the $10,000 funding offer
Extract:
"The World Health Organisation is facing allegations that it attempted to secure a $10,000 (£5,100) donation from a drugs company by asking a patients' group to act as a covert channel for the funds, in the light of documents published today. The alleged arrangement would have broken the WHO's own rules on accepting money from the pharmaceutical industry.
Emails between Benedetto Saraceno, the WHO's director of mental health and substance abuse, and the European Parkinson's Disease Association appear to suggest that the WHO was willing to take $10,000 from Britain's biggest drug company, GlaxoSmithKline, to help pay for the preparation of a report on neurological disorders, for which GSK makes drugs.
However, Dr Saraceno made it clear that the money must pass through the coffers of the EPDA first because of the rules on WHO accepting drug industry funding. "
Nothing surprises me about the World Health Organisation! - Apart from its name, that is! - See my previous post for further criticism of this very flawed organisation. - See also Sleaze in the Medical Profession - You wonder whether the medical profession cares more about the health of patients or about the health of the sleazy drug companies' profits. - Or maybe, like me, you don't wonder...)o:
What causes obesity and overweight? - Here is the dangerous misinformation given by the World Health Organisation.
"What causes obesity and overweight?
The fundamental cause of obesity and overweight is an energy imbalance between calories consumed on one hand, and calories expended on the other hand. Global increases in overweight and obesity are attributable to a number of factors including:
a global shift in diet towards increased intake of energy-dense foods that are high in fat and sugars but low in vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients; and
a trend towards decreased physical activity due to the increasingly sedentary nature of many forms of work, changing modes of transportation, and increasing urbanization."
This is not true! - It's incredible that the WHO can get away with this false assertion. - There is absolutely no evidence for their claim! - They have never even put their claim to the test! (Their one mention of salt - which contains no calories at all - on the webpage is only peripheral.)
See http://aboutsalt.blogspot.com/2006/11/do-you-believe-that-obesity-is-caused.html and http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/story.html
Obesity is not caused by eating too much. - It is usually caused/initiated by salt sensitivity and fluid retention, and is best reduced by abandoning the calorie myth and concentrating on cutting down on salt/sodium intake and eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Dieting is potentially harmful. Lose weight by eating less salt! - Go on! - Try it! - See my website http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/ (The site does not sell anything and has no banners or sponsors or adverts - just helpful information.)
