If your skin is red and you're not a tomato

If your skin is red and you're not a tomato or a beetroot, it's very likely that you are sensitive to salt. I say this because salt sensitivity tends to cause skin-thinning and swollen veins. Then because of the thin skin the veins are effectively nearer to the skin's surface, and their red/purple/blue colour makes the skin appear flushed.

I suggest that you try cutting down on salt and salty food. If you take up my suggestion, your high colour will be reduced and you will feel ever so much better! You will lose some excess weight/fluid retention, lower your blood pressure, reduce your risk of stroke, heart attack, cancer and diabetes, increase your energy and pep up your mental alertness. - "Bring it on!" I hear you cry! - And here's an added inducement to desalinate your diet: read "The Fat Man with the Red Face."

University Challenge: Well Done to Alexander Guttenplan and his team!

I watched University Challenge last night, as I usually do, and admired the speed with which the contestants came up with the answers - and the accuracy too, of course. It's a great programme. Last night was the final. It would be interesting to see this year's human encyclopedia, Alex Guttenplan, competing against last year's, Gail Trimble.

I'll bet neither of them eats much salt...(o:

Driver suffering from sleep apnoea fell asleep at the wheel and caused four deaths...

Pile-up lorry driver guilty of nodding off

Extract from the Telegraph:

"A lorry driver who wiped out a family of four when he fell asleep at the wheel was facing jail last night.

Ian King, 61, was driving at more than 40mph when he dozed off, ploughing his 30-ton articulated lorry into a queue of traffic on the A34 near Bicester, Oxfordshire.

Travelling in one of the cars crushed in the collision were Malcolm Dowling, 46, his wife Janice, 42, and their sons Richard, 16, and George, 11, who were on their way to their home in Lichfield, Staffs, after a holiday in France. All four were killed.

King, of Groby, Leicester, suffers from sleep apnoea, a breathing disorder that can cause drowsiness, and it was claimed that he would have known he was falling asleep but failed to do anything that would have kept him awake.

He claimed that he did not know he had the condition, said to affect an estimated 600,000 men and women in Britain, and so could not have done anything to avert the tragedy."

Are you at risk of falling asleep at the wheel? - You can lower that risk and improve your mental alertness by cutting down on salt/sodium. - Sleep apnoea is associated with being overweight or obese. - The easiest, safest and most reliable way to lose excess weight is to forget about calories and calorie restriction, and concentrate instead on eating less salt and making sure you eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Foolish bishops say that the floods are God's judgement on society! - What nonsense!

Floods are judgment on society, say bishops - Sunday Telegraph

What pernicious nonsense!

Extract:

"The floods that have devastated swathes of the country are God's judgment on the immorality and greed of modern society, according to senior Church of England bishops.

One diocesan bishop has even claimed that laws that have undermined marriage, including the introduction of pro-gay legislation, have provoked God to act by sending the storms that have left thousands of people homeless.

While those who have been affected by the storms are innocent victims, the bishops argue controversially that the flooding is a result of Western civilisation's decision to ignore biblical teaching.

The Rt Rev Graham Dow, Bishop of Carlisle, argued that the floods are not just a result of a lack of respect for the planet, but also a judgment on society's moral decadence.

"This is a strong and definite judgment because the world has been arrogant in going its own way," he said. "We are reaping the consequences of our moral degradation, as well as the environmental damage that we have caused.""

If you want to think more logically than these foolish, misguided bishops, you can improve your mental alertness by reducing your salt intake. - Lose weight and benefit your health in countless other ways by eating less salt! - Go on! - Try it! - You will feel so much better! -
