Artificial sweeteners have harmful side-effects and they do not help overweight people to lose weight.

Artificial sweeteners are very cheap to produce and so are very profitable to the manufacturers who add them to their food and drink products. They are 'dieting' products, marketed with the claim that by reducing the calorie content in a product they will assist overweight consumers to lose excess weight, but this claim is false. Not only is it false, but some of the sweeteners - most notably Aspartame and the new sweetener kid on the block, Neotame, a relative of Aspartame - interfere very profoundly with the intricate biochemistry of the body, risking serious and permanent health side-effects. These include neurological damage, increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and more. If you value your health and the health of your family, as I am sure you do, I advise you to check the nutritional information on packs carefully, and to avoid artificial sweeteners. There are many internet sources of warning information about these unsafe substances. The very informative article I have been reading today is Dr Mercola's article.
And here is a safe, sure way to lose excess weight.

Function of the Appendix

When I was at school I was taught that the appendix didn't really have a function these days - that it was just a vestigial organ. Maybe you were taught that too. - But there is another theory now: that the appendix provides a 'safe house' where healthy gut flora are stored as a reserve cache to repopulate the gut if it gets infected and diarrhoea empties it. - Isn't the body a marvellous, intricate wonder?

See the diagram and explanation on Wikipedia.

I urge you to safeguard the health of your amazing, complex body by eating good, nutritious, natural food instead of processed, adulterated, over-salted, sub-standard fodder and diet junk.

Diet foods and low-calorie junk are causing obesity in children

Diet foods could lead to obesity - Telegraph

Extract:

"Giving children low calorie food and diet drinks may actually increase their risk of becoming obese.

A team of researchers in Canada suggest that children may just eat more to compensate for the foods' low calorie content.

Parents are increasingly turning to low-calorie food and diet options in a bid to stop their children becoming overweight.

A quarter of children aged between 11 and 15 are overweight. The figure has doubled in the last 10 years and the Government looks unlikely to hit even the modest target of halting the rise in childhood obesity by 2010.

Type two diabetes, which is caused by obesity and can lead to heart disease, amputations and blindness, is now being diagnosed in young children, which was unheard of a decade ago.

Dr David Pierce, a University of Alberta sociologist and lead author of the paper published today in the journal Obesity, said: "Based on what we've learned, it is better for children to eat healthy, well-balanced diets with sufficient calories for their daily activities rather than low-calorie snacks or meals."

The real reason children are more prone to become obese from eating low calorie 'foods' is twofold: - low calorie diet 'foods' are often high in sodium, which is the cause of child obesity, and low in proper nutrients, so the children's blood vessel walls become further weakened and so more susceptible to excess salt in the bloodstream and the water that accompanies it, leading to fluid retention. - Read about child obesity here: http://www.wildeaboutsteroids.co.uk/children.html
